Offering Bowl - Chairman / Head of Development
#

November 2024 to present. Spain & India.

Offering Bowl is a platform that connects Buddhist monastics with lay sponsors and modernises the ancient practice of dana (generosity) for the digital age. Monasteries and individual monastics are verified before listing, and sponsors can contribute one-off or recurring support. I founded it, designed it, and write most of the code, with a volunteer team supporting infrastructure, partnerships and legal paperwork.

The stack is TypeScript and Node.js on the backend, Vue on the frontend, AWS for infrastructure (ECS, Lambda, S3, etc), NoSQL for data, and Stripe for payouts. Currently in private beta.

Doc Cirrus GmbH — Team Lead / Senior Engineer
#

September 2019 – August 2022. Berlin.

Doc Cirrus builds inSuite, a practice-management platform used by German medical institutions. I led the containerisation team — the group responsible for letting partner companies ship their own applications inside the inSuite product. We started on Docker and moved to Podman, and I rewrote the deploy pipeline along the way. My team also maintained the orchestration infrastructure and built our own applications on top of it. We worked rather successfully with cross-functional Scrum with product, QA, and customer care. We used Jira and Confluence daily.

Stack: JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, Docker / Podman, Bash, Unix, and Jira for PM.

MADANA — Head of Development
#

April 2018 – July 2019. Berlin.

MADANA was an early-stage startup building privacy-enhancing analytics for sensitive data. I led the development of the mobile application, ran the data-analysis team, and worked closely with the marketing team on the technical strategy. The work I drove most directly was a healthcare pilot — analytics on patient data that preserved patient privacy. We worked with Scrum and Jira for PM, and used Bamboo for CI.

Stack: React, React Native, Java, Node.js, and Bash.

Unique Insights — Head of Development
#

August 2017 – July 2018. Manchester.

Unique Insights built customer-understanding tools on top of machine-learning APIs. As Head of Development I was half engineer, half tech strategist — building the product itself and shaping where it should go. We tried cracking the higher education market with an LLM-type product, but unfortunately we ran out of funds before we could.

Stack: JavaScript, Node.js, Python, AWS, and NoSQL.

Post-graduate research
#

Savitribai Phule Pune University — Academic Researcher
#

March 2025–present. Pune, Maharashtra.

Comparative philosophical research on interpretations of Nāgārjuna’s Madhyamaka, in collaboration with DKCLI. The project sits across two methodologies — classical Tibetan commentarial study and contemporary Western Buddhist studies — and asks where they converge, where they diverge, and what each loses when it ignores the other. Funded by a Khyentse Foundation Buddhist Studies Grant.

Education
#

Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö Institute
#

BA/MA in Buddhist Scriptures and Philosophies — 2022–present. Bir, Himachal Pradesh.

The full traditional monastic curriculum: Tibetan language, classical commentaries on Madhyamaka, Pramāṇa (epistemology), Abhidharma, and formal debate. Taught in Tibetan under the lineage of Khyentse Rinpoche.

University of Manchester
#

MSc Bioinformatics and Systems Biology — 2015–2016. BSc Biotechnology with Enterprise — 2012–2015.

A four-year run through the life sciences with deliberate detours into business and computer science as minors. The BSc was a broad biotechnology degree with an enterprise strand that pushed every project through a commercialisation lens; the MSc was where the science met the keyboard — large-scale sequence analysis, systems modelling, and enough Python and R to realise I was going to spend the rest of my career writing code. Supported by The Manchester Bursary and a BSPP Undergraduate Bursary Fund.

I also spent a few months in early 2016 as a Postgraduate Ambassador for the University, running tours and Q&As for prospective postgraduate students and answering queries through the Manchester Calling Campaign.

Non-profit work
#

I’ve been involved with non-profits since 2012, in roles ranging from founder and chairman to volunteer cook and digital creative. The through-line is the same one I read into the technical work: the point of the tools is the people they’re for.

Paramita
#

Digital Consultant — Spain, 2017 - 2021.

Contributing to the codebase, UI and UX of the Paramita.org online learning platform. Additionally, offering actionable recommendations for the digital marketing efforts. At one point we even re-built the entire platform and I managed the implementation.

Lotus Project
#

Co-founder — Berlin, late-2010s.

Brought renewable solar power to disconnected villages in remote parts of Southeast Asia. We successfully installed panels in a village in northern Vietnam before the project wound down.

SPIN (Supporting People In Need)
#

Co-founder, Head of IT — Manchester, mid 2010s.

A homeless shelter run out of a former Baptist church. I joined an existing volunteer group, registered the charity, built the website, and went in most Sundays to cook for the people who came through.

Buddhist centres and monasteries
#

Over the past several years I’ve also built websites, apps, and other small bits of digital infrastructure for various Buddhist centres and monasteries — usually pro bono, usually quietly. Offering Bowl is the formal continuation of that work.
